"A Walking Bhagavad Gita" - Late Ramesh Garu

One of that handful of people who lived the way God has told us to live.

Ramesh Garu’s full name was Yalamanchali Bandi Ramesh. He was born on Jan 29, 1972. His father’s name is Dakshinamurthy Sharma, and his mother’s name is Pushpavati. His spirituality wasn’t inherited from his ancestral lineage, he was the only one who stood out in family when it came to spirituality. He learned Bhagavad Gita from his mother.

He was inspired by Chaitanyananda's discourses during the initial days and decided to lead a celibate (Brahmacharya) life. Later on, he also resigned from his job and dedicated all his time only to God.

In 1995 he started pursuing Bhagavad Gita, and in less than a year, he had memorized the entire Gita. In 1998 he was also awarded a Gold medal by Chinna Jiyar Swami. As a student of Brahmasri Apala Someswara Sanmukha Sarma Garu, he learned about Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Sastras.

In 2010 the incident of the incarnation of Narasimha Swamy as narrated by Shanmukha Sharma Garu had inspired him a lot. Thereafter, he fell in love with Simhachalam and started visiting the place often. He had a strong desire to be like Prahlada. He used to earnestly pray to God to bless him with devotion like that of Prahlada. He was a good orator too. He had a vision of Narsimha Swamy too. Upon having darshan of Swamy, his devotion intensified and he gave discourses frequently. He decided that this life was only for Swamy and had no other purpose. In 2016 on Vijaya Dasami the statue of Prahlada was installed in Simhachalam. With all sincerity and dedication, this work was done. Sri Nannagaru said to Ramesh once “You’ve put a lot of effort to install this Prahlada (statue) in this place. There is justice to the work you have done because Narsimha Swamy gave darshan to Prahlada here, this place ought to have this statue, you did it with a lot of respect & high regards.” Later on, he intensified the work of writing books and giving discourses. His will to spread the importance of Simhachalam had strengthened, and thereby arranged speeches of Sanmuka Sharma Garu and bought into a book named “Prahlada Chandrika”..

In 2019 January he organized the discourses of Sanmukha Sarma Garu about Mukundaravalambam. In that context, Mukundaravalambam Stotras has been bought to a book form and have been distributed to everyone. From Jan 23rd, 2018, the Knowledge in him over-flowed and thereby 1200 slokas were bought into light named as "Prahlada Jnana Vichikalu"

All that he learned in life about Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Maha Bharatham, Bhagavatam, Sankara’s teachings of Adwaita, he integrated it with the devotion of Prahlada and preached about devotion, Jnana, and dispassion. The audience who listened to his speeches felt an inner joy in their hearts.

By acquaintance of Sadguru Sri Nannagaru, Ramesh Garu had learned how to lead the day to day life. In 2002 he paid the first visit to Arunachala, thereupon the relationship strengthened with Nannagaru. He was attracted by Ramana's teachings too. Sri Nannagaru used to say, “He is a walking Bhagavad Gita. If we ask him to close his eyes and pick a chapter & explain, even then he will be able to narrate it with ease”. Such a was his efficiency!

Nannagaru was very fond of Ramesh Garu not just because he had knowledge of Sastras(scholar) but also he was completely devoted to God. Over the years Ramesh Garu became close to Sri Nannagaru. When Ramesh Garu mentioned that Adi Sankaracharya's teachings were ultimate of all, then Sri Nannagaru expressed a lot of happiness. If Ramesh Garu was around, certainly Nannagaru used to ask him to address before his discourse began. Ramesh Garu never misused time.

Sri Krishna said in Gita, “The one who understands my words and illustrates those to others are very close to me”. Ramesh Garu lived accordingly and became the chosen one.

HHis teachings had started in 2010 in Purnananda Samaj for the age of 10-15 age group. Later he started with Bhagavadgita classes which were inaugurated by Sri Sampurnananda Swamy. Later his Satsangs spread far & wide. In a week he took classes for 5 days, and he would dedicate the rest of the two days(weekends) for darshan of Simhadrinadh. Not only did he have a proper understanding of the spiritual subject, but he also educated the youth on the lines of devotion, dispassion, and Jnana and had them experience inner peace. He was an inspiration to many young people who approached him. Whatever he had learned over years with great efforts, he poured all that into his teachings to whoever got in touch with him.

The qualities that are to be seen in a devotee are comprehensively found in Ramesh Garu. He was not only a soft-hearted person but never had hurtful intentions. He was dear to all devotees of Vizag. He was like a son to some, like a brother to some, and as a friend to all the Satsang devotees. He knows not what selfishness means! He didn't live for himself but had only God as the sole purpose.

Ramesh Garu's life is blessed, it's not important how long we have lived, but it’s important how meaningfully we lived. He is a role model for all of us and it gives us immense pride that he was also a devotee among us of Sri Nannagaru.

"Offerings into Blessings" - (By Dr.Usha Garu)

At the end of the second year (dental graduation), during summer Nanna had come to Tiruvannamalai from Jinnur & I travelled from Chidambaram to Thiruvannamalai. One day evening after he had his meals, the devotee that serves food for Nanna, offered him mangoes that were brought by devotees from Andhra for him to eat. He instructed them to give that to me and told me to eat it as he would get sick if he ate it at night time. He continued to say he would have one the next morning. Later he went into the hall to give darshan to devotees, as usual, I followed him to the hall (along with others).

When we went for dinner after Nanna went to rest, I got reminded about the mango that Nanna told me to eat, so I went into the kitchen to take it but I found it missing. Without much thought to it I went and had dinner. The next morning when Nanna came for his morning meal, they offered mangoes again. He called me and asked how the mango tasted, for which I didn’t have an answer. I told him that I forgot to eat it the previous day. He asked the lady that served him if they forgot to give it to me, she hesitantly said, “Usha followed you into the hall & we forgot about it too.”

He told them to give that fruit to me and said he would eat the next day. How much ever they persuaded him, he hesitated to eat (even after being pleaded). After he left the kitchen after having his food, she was annoyed with me, as Nanna didn't eat the fruit. She said in a frustrated tone, “It’s because of you that Nannagaru didn’t eat the fruit yesterday & today!” Later she gave me the fruit with dislike, which I couldn’t accept. I told her that in case Nanna asked me the next day I would say I ate the fruit (so as to not cause her worry).

Since there was a discontentment that I was the reason for Nanna not eating the fruit, I have made an internal decision to never eat mango again this lifetime. Because he is the indweller & witness of all, while having his meal the next day morning, he asked how the fruit taste was? I couldn’t lie to him nor tell the truth so ended up nodding my head. He told them to pull a chair closer to him, made me sit & eat the mango and asked how it tasted. Upon having the fruit and replying saying it was delicious, Nanna then ate a mango. My decision to not eat mango again was broken by so much love. He showered further compassion by saying, “Usha, these seasonal fruits are very good for health, so never quit on them (conveying a meaning that you needn’t quit what is good for health)” and smiled.

His love for us is unconditional. Many such incidents made me realize what a boon this human life is, and the rare privilege to live in the presence of a supreme master. Whenever I see a mango I get reminded of him. Nanna used to make me clean his dentures during the days I spent with him (myself being a dentist). He would make me apply ointment if he developed ulcers in the mouth. Later whenever I made dentures or treated elderly patients it always reminded me of Nanna.

The days I spent with him he would shower me with a lot of gifts like fruits, sweets & chocolates that he received as offerings from devotees & people from abroad. When I would tell Nanna to distribute it to other devotees he would amusingly tell me to take whatever I wanted to eat. At times it would be beyond my comprehension how someone can love so much, without expectations. Love for the sake of love, unconditional, pure, divine, perfect & heavenly.

Probably he was capturing our hearts in such a way that there is nothing left to look around, for his love encompassed devotees from all angles & they were attracted to naturally walk the path of liberation.

The point of him being with us or not doesn’t arise because he was giving full-time attention in every possible way and filled our hearts without any lack. Oftentimes, I reminisce about him in everything I see & do. If not for that tremendous love, how would the soul find fulfillment! Nanna used to mention. “In this creation, whatever food that is meant for us to be eaten, be it grains or fruits, Mahatmas say that our name is imbibed on them (meaning it will reach us wherever we are)”.

On one occasion when we went to Shirdi Sai Baba temple with Nanna, the priest gave plenty of big ripe mangoes that were offered to Baba, as prasadam to Nanna. Nanna gave the entire cover of those ripe mangoes to me & told me to take them home without fail. I put the cover in a safe corner, and I went around the whole place with him for a long duration. I completely forgot about the cover of mangoes and went home, I got reminded of it much later and felt bad since he insisted to take them home carefully. Being a lover of Baba & also since it was specifically given, I wanted to distribute among family members & neighbors but that was just a momentary thought. The very next moment I felt, we can afford to buy mangoes whenever we want to eat, probably someone who can’t afford to buy them or someone with troubles could have received it, which would be really wonderful & they deserve to get the blessings. This thought gave me much solace & happiness.

Bhagavan & Nannagaru also stated, “The fruit, much before it is formed on the tree itself it’s decided, whom it has to go to & also pre-determined as to who should eat it”. The above incident reminded me of this statement!

We generally take offerings when we go to a temple or to meet a Guru. When anyone offers fruits, sweets, or anything, Nanna would say amusingly to devotees, what you are giving is called offerings & upon returning them to the devotees he used to mention that those are blessings. The intricate meaning is once he receives the offerings, he blesses, purifies & returns it with a lot of grace. If only we can offer our ego with love & devotion, he will reveal himself as the true self in our very heart.

As Nanna always mentions, let us offer all our actions as a sacrifice to the highest & highest alone!

Sadguru Nannagaru describes the glory of Lord Hanuman's scholarship

Introducing himself to Rama & Lakshmana on the banks of the Pambha river, Hanuman said: ' I am Anjaneya working as a minister for King Sugriva. I have come here on being sent by Sugriva and not on my own. Sugriva desires to befriend you'. Rama was totally surprised by these words. Hanuman's words as well as grammar was faultless. Turning to Lakshman, Rama said: 'Are these words or bales of gold?' When Lakshmana tried to introduce themselves as sons of Dasaratha, Rama stopped him and asked him to listen to Hanuman. Rama said: 'Hanuman's grammar is faultless. Hanuman is both a vyakarana pandit as well as a niyukta pandit. Without knowing grammar, the essence of the sentence cannot be understood. Where a full stop or a comma has to be used, which word has to be used in the sentence is all conveyed by the grammar. If you understand the meaning and depth of the word, why, and how it has been used in this context, it is called niyukta. Thus Hanuman conveyed his message in very sweet sentences. Despite being Supreme Lord, Rama got surprised by Hanuman's words. He said: Are these words or bales of gold?

Honor the God, not the body

To a devotee who paid visit to Sri Nannagaru in scorching summer heat, he said, "You came here all the way walking in this hot sun. Let me bring a glass of water for you". Saying thus he went inside and brought her a glass of water. Due to the sunlight, you are able to see your shadow. How would you feel if I were to stop giving you water and hand over the glass to your shadow?

After thinking for a while, the devotee replied:" It would appear to me that instead of respecting me, you are respecting my shadow and have forgotten me"

Immediately Sri Nannagaru said: "This body is being driven by an unseen power. If you honor your body forgetting that power, how would GOD feel about this? The way you would feel when one stops honoring you and starts honoring your shadow, God too would feel the same manner when you stop honoring him (the very basis of your existence) and start honoring the body. Don't forget these words"

"The Word is God" - (By Sujata)

Around 1988-89 Sri Nannagaru came to our house. We treated him cordially and respectfully as a friend and relative of my Father-in-law. Many devotees used to come to our house for his darshan.

That way, he came to our house a number of times. He would also teach here. I observed that he used to look deep into the devotee's eyes. And the devotees too looked into his eyes all the time. Someone advised me too to look into his eyes, but I couldn’t do so. Somewhere, while reading the Vishnu Sahasranama book, I remember reading that it is enough if God looks at us. I carried these words in my mind and expressed to Nannagaru, “Everybody is asking me to look into your eyes, I’m unable to do so and the Vishnu Sahasranama says that it is enough if God looks at us” I don’t remember his answer but what I remember is that he showered on me love that said, “I am like your father. You can ask me anything”.

He used to ask me to read the Bhagavadgita. And I would do so sincerely. As I kept reading it, I began to find the sweetness of the Gita. It took me a very long time to realize that His silence was working always and drawing me closer to the Heart.

I was without any problems in my worldly life. But for a person like me who thought that this was all life was about, who didn’t know how to lead a fruitful life, who would be swept hither and tither by winds of desire, I consider Nannagaru’s entry into my life, great luck, because he made me understand what real happiness is and is taking me in that direction.

Nannagaru is full of compassion and pure love. His words, His gaze, His very body, is filled with love. This is something everyone feels when they look at him. This love attracts everyone and pulls everyone towards it. Nannagaru helps in both the worldly and the spiritual realms. He is the complete Guru.

I like his teachings. From the beginning, he has been saying, “I don’t want your greetings and salutations. Try and understand what I am saying and put those words into action” “The word is God”; so saying he himself works tirelessly without wasting a minute. He has taken upon him, to take us all into everlasting bliss that he is experiencing, with a lot of love and care. Whenever I remember this, my mind gets subdued. I get inspired to live the dutiful life, God has recommended.

I have seen many devotees who are very fond of Nannagaru. I used to get jealous, then. Now, I feel that they must have worked so hard to clear their hearts, for so much love for him to spring forth.

It is my earnest desire to continue to see him, to hear his teachings, to congregate with his devotees, to sweeten my life with the fond memories of events that have taken place in his presence, and to dedicate my life for doing these alone. I strongly believe that this bond will take me through the pinnacle teaching that there is no mind, whatever exists is God alone.

Rajasri Garu Satsang

Rajasri Garu Satsang is a recurring Satsang which happens on every day

Satsang Recordings are available here

"The Divine Home" - (By Dr.Usha Garu)

It was Dasara holidays time during the second year in college. For the first time I felt, I had to visit Nannagaru in his home town Jinnur. I didn't know where exactly Jinnur was (except that it was close to Palakol), so with the help of friends, booked tickets to Bhimavaram & traveled. Upon reaching Bhimavaram, I took a bus to Palakol and then an auto ride to Jinnur, which took just 10 minutes.
I didn’t inform anyone about my arrival, I was also unaware of the time I would reach there. By the time I reached Nanna’s place, he was eagerly waiting for my arrival, as there was nothing he didn’t know.

As soon as I stepped in, he said - "You are late by 1 hour, I was waiting for you."
I didn't book my return tickets as I knew only that day and the next day would be taken care of. Nannagaru asked me to stay with him the whole day and rest at nights in a devotee’s house opposite to Nanna’s house, this was the only conversation we had in 5 days.
The whole day I would sit beside him just watching him read the newspaper, oiling his head, applying powder, having food, and reading books before going to sleep. It was as if he forgot my existence and in fact, I forgot mine!

I was given food after Nanna was served & I would eat quickly so that I don’t miss anytime with him. Nanna’s wife (Amma) would serve me very fondly too. I got quite connected to her also during that trip.

Many times when I would be overwhelmed with love and admiration, I would gently touch his feet and tears would roll down. I wondered “Do I need anything apart from his presence?!” He was so divine and serene. At times he would just do nothing & gaze into nothing. Constantly observing him made me thoughtless and silent. Time stood still in his presence and I didn't know how days were passing when one fine day afternoon railway station master came to visit Nannagaru.

Nannagaru gladly received him by saying - “I was waiting for your arrival. We need to book a ticket for Usha for tomorrow. She has to go to Chennai, from there she will board a bus to Chidambaram”. The station master nodded and said he would pick me up the next day.

Later that evening Mr.Satyanarayana Raju came to visit Nanna. Nanna introduced me to him & gave a description of him & Hyma aunty (who were highly devoted to Nanna for many years & had Satsang every day in their house in Palakol) He told Satyanarayana uncle to take me to his house, introduce me to Hyma Aunty & mentioned that he along with Station master should get me boarded on the train.

Tears flowed for I didn't know four days flew by and I had to leave. That evening after his dinner, it was sunset time.
He came to the backyard of the house and started gazing endlessly into the sky until the sun-set completely (the way I would do whenever time & conditions permitted me). But here I kept watching him, he was so powerfully peaceful. Nanna’s compassionate gaze moved onto the cattle in the shed. He continued blessing them with his tremendous benevolence. The way he would grace devotees with his look, he did the same to all the animals around him. His unconditional divine love was not permitted to humans alone but to the entire universe!

Spending time in Nanna’s presence during Navaratri days was like spending my time in the lap of The Divine Mother. Time had come for my departure. After spending five days with him, he finally spoke again 'Usha, you are a blessed child', and looked straight into my eyes with tremendous compassion. 'Grace will follow you.' he said.

I took leave of him in silence, touched his feet, and walked away looking back many times before his presence disappeared physically but to be continued with me & Always!

Nanna often quoted the words of saint Tyagaraja to Lord Rama: “Rama, O Sri Rama! Does material wealth give more happiness or your very presence?”. Meaning your divine presence outweighs all the wealth in the world!

"Nanna's divine feet are my refuge" - (By Dr.Usha Garu)

When I traveled for the first time to Tiruvannamalai, it was easy as I traveled by car with my junior, but traveling there for the next 2 years was difficult as I was told there was no train service nor direct bus, so I had to change 3-4 buses before I could reach my destination. People in bus stops didn’t know English & I didn’t know the local language (Tamil) by then, except for very few words. Also, the only language used on bus plates was Tamil (no other language), so had to ask people every time a bus arrived if it would go to a particular place. What would take 3 hours by car took me nearly 6-7 hours as I had to take a round-about route due to a lack of direct bus service.

Since I would have classes in the morning, I had to start only after lunch hour which made it more difficult. There would be long waiting hours for the buses and I would most times reach Tiruvannamalai at midnight.

The next day morning when I would go for Nanna darshan he would speak to me with great compassion. He would mention the time that I have arrived that night & also how tedious the journey was without me ever having to tell him anything. He would ask me if it wasn’t getting hectic for me to travel like that.

I would answer him saying, ”When the focus is on you, nothing seems to matter to me except the fact that I shall be in your presence soon!”, for which he would bless me with both his raised hands & a cheerful smile.

Every time I traveled like this, I would be completely lost to myself. There wouldn’t be anything running in my head, no fear or worry or impatience. His embracing grace was felt throughout and I would remain in a state of calm. It would be like divine energy taking me home without my intervention. It would happen most naturally, so was never surprised at the divine help I received when I was stuck in the middle of nowhere. Nanna would guide me in his silence & the only time he would make it verbal was to clarify that everything was taken care of! The strength, courage & patience needed to travel in an unknown state all by myself without knowing the local language was provided from the silence within which made me gradually develop calm courage. He made my walk in the path of surrender easy.

One such incident is when I was traveling similarly, the bus that I took from Villupuram to go to Tiruvannamalai broke down in a small village, so I had to get down. The time was almost 11 PM. There were no women to be seen anywhere in the vicinity, only a few elderly men & one or two drunkards

After waiting for a while, I approached an elderly man and asked if any bus would come that would go to Tiruvannamalai. He said that the last bus left some time ago & that there would be no bus for that day. I was a little perplexed about how I would travel to Arunachala. As I was standing there clueless, an old lady came stood beside me, and asked where I had to go. When I told her I had to go to Tiruvannamalai, she said she wanted to go there too.

When I mentioned that the last bus had already left, she said with a smile, “No, the last bus is running late today. It hasn’t arrived yet. It will arrive soon".

Within a few minutes after she said that, a bus arrived and we both got into it together, and she took a seat beside me. There were no ladies inside the bus except us both.

She asked me, "Where are you going to in Tiruvannamalai?" I replied that I was visiting Guruji who resides at Andhra Ashram.

After we got down at Tiruvannamalai, she accompanied me to the auto stand, spoke to one of the auto drivers & told him in Tamil to drop me safely at Andhra Ashram (as if I was related to her). I expressed my gratitude to her, within 10 mins he(auto driver)took me safely to the Ashram, and by the time I reached it was 1.00am (midnight).

The next morning when I met Nanna, he instantly said, ”It was very late by the time you reached last night, was the time 1 O’clock Usha? Anyway, you were guided and received help right?”

That statement amused me so much that I remained speechless looking at him in wonder. I thought to myself, “How beautiful is this life being guided with such love & care at every step of my external & internal journey” where I wasn’t given a chance to speak or express my gratitude. It was in fact too deep for it to be expressed in mere words.

As Nanna would often mention Bhagavan’s statement “When two hearts converse with each other in silence, what is the necessity of words?”

For the silent messages that Nanna would convey to me in a profound way, I would touch his feet with great reverence!

On this very trip, Nanna took us (devotees) to Skanda Ashram & Virupaksha Cave. When Nanna got down from the vehicle to proceed to Virupaksha cave he removed his footwear. When we told him it was quite hot as it was noon-time & the rocks would be hot, he told us that we can wear our footwear but he wouldn’t. This showed his pure devotion & respect for Arunachala mountain. This incident moved me & so I never wore footwear whenever I happened to climb the hill, however hot it was.

We spent almost 2 hours at Virupaksha cave. Nanna refreshed us with the memories of Bhagavan Ramana’s short conversations with the devotees that visited Virupaksha cave & Skanda Ashram during his time. Also, Nanna told us many interesting facts that took place when Bhagavan lived there.

Whichever God or sage Nanna spoke about (Be it Lord Rama, Krishna, Rama Krishna, Buddha, Sankaracharya, Ramana), he would be reliving them & he would bring their expression & teaching to life. Those moments would be precious because we felt we lived with every God (Avatar Purusha) & sage that we haven’t seen but only read about! He made us experience all the profound personalities that history has witnessed.

After some time in silence & peace, Nanna softly said, "I played here (Virupaksha Cave)as a child (but Nanna visited Tiruvannamalai for the first time in Jan 1959, which was at approximately 25yrs of age). In rare instances like these, he would occasionally reveal the glimpses of his past life incidents.

Nanna would sing with a great love for Bhagavan in Telugu, ”You are the one in our talks, in our songs, in our Play, the one in all & you are our everything, isn’t it Bhagavan! Little did we realize then, that what he sang for Bhagavan, he was making himself that to all of us.

The reason why we are happy in deep sleep and not in waking state

The ONE who exists in the waking state also exists in the dream as well as in the deep sleep. How are you all in a deep sleep? All of you are blissful. If you don't sleep for a single day, the consequent laziness continues for 6 months. You will lose the energy to work the next day if you don't sleep at the night. If you become anxious for a single day, you will lose the energy to work for a whole of the month. All this is science. However anxious a person may be, all that anxiety is lost in the sleep. That's why sleeping pills are given when a person is unable to sleep. Why are you blissful in deep sleep? It is because of the absence of the ego. You don't remember either your body or money or wealth or position or fame or sex in the deep sleep. Even without all of them, you are blissful in your deep sleep. But from where is this bliss arising? Find out that. It comes from inside within said, Acharya. If your body is unhealthy, you are still blissful in deep sleep because of the absence of the physical body. But once you wake up all the bliss, peace and happiness vanishes. You suddenly get filled with a torrent of sorrow. In the waking state you have your body, money, wealth, position, fame, sex, etc., Inspite of having all of them, you are still sorrowful. Why is it so? It is because once you wake up you get ATTACHED towards wealth, relatives, household members, surroundings, etc Also the sense of belonging arises like if you get honored you feel that this honor belongs to me. When there is nothing in deep sleep, you are very blissful. But when you have everything in waking state, why are you sorrowful? IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF ATTACHMENT.

Our True Self is Undying Spirit

Sri Nannagaru gave clarification to Bhagavan’s subject in a simple way and with examples, so that devotees can grasp easily. One such narrative was that of Dharma Raju (Yudhistara, eldest of Pandavas in Mahabharatha)

Yaksha asks Yudhistara, ”What is the most surprising fact in this world?”

Yudhistara replies, ”Seeing people die everywhere but believing nothing shall happen to us!”

Bhagavan’s reply to this had been, ”Your true self is deathless (undying spirit). So thinking we won’t die is quite natural as it is our true state!’

When devotee's prostrated to him, Sri Nannagaru used to say often - "When we prostrate to anyone, we are actually honoring the God within that person. If it is a self-realized saint, our prostrations just go straight to God (as there is no individual there). That is why a realized master is honored unasked., the one with ego will not be honored even if asked!"

"Endless Grace and Boundless Compassion of Nannagaru" - (By Lalitha Garu)

My husband was diagnosed with brain cancer and was terminal in January 2015. I did not tell many people about this. However, my friend Laxmi/ Madhavi from Chinmaya came to know about this. She came to visit Viswanadhan in the rehabilitation center sometime in September 2015. She got a picture of Nannagaru and Bhagavan pictures along with few books. That was the first time I saw Nannagaru . Pointing out towards the picture of Nannagaru , asked her who he was? She calmly said it was Jinnuru Nanagaru and her guru. She mentioned to me that I could talk to him if I wanted to. I was drained emotionally and physically. I did not know what to talk or ask him for as I did not have any hope. I told her I am not ready to talk to him. She asked me to visit his website and listen to his speeches. When it is not time yet for you the senses and mind won’t cooperate. I never had a chance to listen to the audios. Even when I attempted, all the words were going over my head.

About a month later my husband passed away. I was in a state of frustration, anger, dejection. Madhavi gave me Nanagaru books back in the rehabilitation center. I started reading Madhu Geetha and my mother who was with me read Nanagaru’s book Amritavakkulu. Every day she shared with me whatever she read in the book, one of the sentences in that book caught my attention and gave me peace and acceptance. Later, if I had any questions or doubts I used to ask Madhavi about it.

During the month of May 2016, I met Madhavi in Chinmaya mission and told her that I am going to India taking my husband’s ashes to do the needful and during this visit, I mentioned to her I will search my guru and I want to visit Belur Mutt, Arunachalam and Jinnur. She told me that just visit Nanangaru first that should suffice. I laughed off and told if it is in my destiny it will happen. She also mentioned that travel from Vizag to Jinnur is quicker than Hyderabad by car in case I intend to visit him.

During my travel to India during this time, I met Deepthi another Nanna devotee who was traveling with me to India, and her seats were right behind me. Now, when I think about it his grace had started since then. She too persuaded me to visit Nannagaru . Later, after a week of my arrival at Visakhapatnam, the whole atmosphere was dull and gloomy. One afternoon, I hear some inner voice saying to me that I was wasting my time here doing nothing without a thought I should see Nannagaru . I didn’t know how to go as I had certain constraints being in my in-laws. I didn't have any ones number in Jinnur nor I knew anyone there. My in-laws did not have the internet then, so could not WhatsApp Madhavi either. However, I called my vadina asking her to ping Madhavi. Madhavi in few minutes called me and made arrangements for my trip as and advised me to see him in the next couple of days as Nanagaru was going to Arunachalam during the last week of June. I gathered my courage to tell my in-laws that I wanted to visit Nannagaru.

After some confusion and resentment, they finally agreed. Well! when I think about it when you seek the higher he will take care of you. You don’t have to worry about anything.

The much-awaited time arrived. I started at about 6 am with my kids and Father In-law to Jinnur on June 21, 2016. On our way to Jinnur, I was anxious if I will be there on time as Nanagaru generally rests after lunch in the morning. We were about 20 mins away from Jinnur, Pushpa aunty from Poduru accompanied us, Deepthi(USA) was waiting for me outside his house. She told us that Nannagaru went for lunch he may or may not come but we all can wait. We were all sitting in the hall. It was so peaceful there. I had fear of what I should ask Nanagaru, how he will be and several other thoughts were racing my mind.

It was about 10:15 AM Nanagaru entered the room. I saw him for the first time my heart was pounding both out of happiness and anxiety. He asked who I was and other details.

The first instruction he told me was “Happiness is independent, it is not depended on material objects or people or surroundings".

Since I was mourning the loss of my husband, I felt he told me that, “We like ourselves most, and then only we tend to like others. Because others satisfy our ego". He continued saying, “Death is like vacating one house and going to another house".

I asked him how can I reduce my destiny! I was expecting a magic or miracle word here I suppose as I could not handle it anymore.

However, he said, "Don’t identify with the body".

He also said, "Enjoy destiny as you enjoy sweet (payasam) and by doing so, it would not be repeated to next birth"

He told me he would take away my sorrow in 24 hours! I was a bit surprised as to how that can be!

Later, I again had a darshan of him in the afternoon. All the while there was one thought lingering in my mind that I wanted to ask him “Nanagaru, I might have done a lot of sin that I am seeing all this at such a young age. I could not ask him as my father in law was there. After talking for a few minutes we took leave and we headed out. I was not satisfied I felt I was just rushing back home.

Pushpa aunty was asking me if I was happy and satisfied. I was thinking in my mind “No, I am not happy, as I did not ask him to want I wanted to”. My father in law went ahead of us and as I was about to leave Nannagaru called me back. Yes, he called me back! He is Omnipresent, he can read my mind!

I sat in front of him slowly he was asking me several questions in such a way he finally made me ask him, I cried and asked, ”Nannagaru, I think I committed a lot of sin“ and was crying did not care who was there who was watching I poured my heart.

My daughter was there with me and said Amma every one cried when you were crying. In 2 hours Nannagaru distributed my sadness to everyone

He slowly told me, "I will give you peace, unbearable peace! You will be happy. God dictates, he doesn't have compassion".

He asked me to check out the website and read/listen to the audios. His love was unconditional. He was so compassionate and caring! I have never experienced this from anyone!

He gave me Prasad and we left. I was already so happy! He slowly took control of my mind.

The next day I was ready to leave for Hyderabad and the flight was about 1pm. I was getting ready to eat breakfast. My mother-in-law made pooris for breakfast which I always avoid as they were my husband’s favorites and I remember him when I eat the pooris made by her specifically and used to end up crying. However, I never had any thoughts I ate all the poori for breakfast, and later after sitting in the flight I realized how I ate those pooris without sorrow or unhappiness and I actually enjoyed eating them. I then felt it was all Nannagaru’s grace, he said he will remove my sorrow in 24 hours and this is how he did it and I was so happy and joyed thinking about it.

After I came to the USA I had a longing to go see him and spend more time with him. Every day I used to cry out of happiness and peace that I got after I met Nannagaru. Even, today I cry out of joy remembering those days. Again, by his grace, I went to see him in a span of 6 months. This time it was for a few more days. Each time I visited him I received more and more peace. During this trip, he said that you have to do the work that God had assigned you, even if your husband was there. Meaning that work has to be get done only by you irrespective of the conditions and situations so just do it off without complaining.

I went to see him again during Gurupurnima 2017. I asked him, "How to change my nature?"

"It is challenging to change one’s nature due to previous birth tendencies. However, he said that by one's will and with divine intervention it can be changed".

He told me a magic word to change my nature! Tolerance, Tolerance, and more Tolerance!

Sometimes when I have to take my kids for their activities to long drives and take care of everything by myself, I used to feel If my husband was alive he would have taken care of all of these. Nannagaru is omnipresent he knows our struggles, thoughts and everything. When I happened to meet President Lakshmi Aunty she told one thing, ”If there is a work alloted to be completed by you it will have to be done through you only, even when your husband is alive. So do the work sincerely and willingly”. It actually wiped out all the doubts I had, ever since I never complain or felt bad about the work. Nannagaru uses various people in life as instruments and guides us in the right path and in such a way that we move more closer internally. My life has changed after I met him. Before I met him, I attended several discourses but it was only subjective. Nannagaru explained Atma Vidya subject in a very simple language. After listening to his speeches and reading his books and Bhagavan books, I understood that all this is required to know the self, “Who am I”? He not only instructed or preached he gave us the strength to practice it. Without which the purpose is lost!

All the while I was thinking okay this birth is bad I will have a better birth next time etc., but that is not the case. Nothing will change. The most awakening view for me was to purify my mind! This is very much required to attain higher births and a stepping stone for self-realization! I have been missing this basic fundamental point until I met him. As Krishna said in Geeta, when times are bad or are causing pain for a person is indeed good for his future. When I think about the circumstances/situation that made me meet Nannagaru it feels like a perfect example!

"God knows what's best for us more than us!", said Nannagaru.

Though I saw him in person only 3 times he helped me to connect with him mentally and slowly started working on me.

He made my life take a 360-degree turn. I can write pages and pages about his blessing but I don’t ever think I can ever do justice to it. As a child, I was chanting Hanuman chalisa, Vishnu Saharanama, Lalitha Shasranamam, read Sai charitra, and Datta Charitra. All these prayers were done asking God to fulfill some material desire (kaamya karmas) of mine. I did similar prayers etc. when my husband was battling cancer, but nothing could help him. Later through Nana’s speeches, I realized that what is meant to happen will happen no matter what, what is not meant to happen is not bound to happen. This was Bhagavan instruction to his mother which I always remember as this instruction has changed my perception of life.

I always have great respect to Madhavi USA for directing me to Nannagaru, who I always refer to her as my upaguruvu! I am grateful for being part of Nannagaru family, and to experience his unconditional love.

Love You Nannagaru!
