What Is, Is NANNA! - (By A Devotee)

My experience with Nannagaru, though short, contained all I needed for a life time. In America, I had, for several years gone to school, and been like any normal student. It wasn’t until my mom had gone to India, to Nannagaru, that my life began to change. Before I had even heard the word spirituality, or of Nannagaru and Bhagavan’s teachings, when I looked at a photo of Nannagaru or Bhagavan, I felt like there was something else to the photo. It was something strange, that I couldn’t understand. This, actually, kind of made me a bit scared to look at any of the few photos we had in our house. But then, in 5th grade, I started to understand what this feeling was.

Love Itself Is The Actual Form Of God!

It all started on a day like any other, in 5th grade, where I had just come home from school. I had a English essay I had to finish for my teacher, so I thought I’d work on it. When I opened my laptop, I saw the Sadguru Sri Nannagaru website open, and on the home page. I saw a specific picture of Nannagaru and for some reason, stood up to get a paper and pencil. Then, I just started sketching by looking at the photo. I didn’t know what to expect or what I was doing. I was just doing what I felt. There was just something that came over me, which I can never put into words. When I finished sketching, I showed my mom. Later, after we had gone out for an art show, I colored it using color pencils. The result was to my extreme surprise, for I had zero experience in drawing people. This changed my life from any regular student, to one for Nannagaru.

Bhagavan’s Assurance!

From then on, I no longer cared much for the world, but instead found my interest in Nannagaru and Bhagavan. I started to understand what illusion this world really is, and what a human’s role is in life. Then, one night, I had a dream, where Bhagavan came, and merely said that the world is not real and that I was to find out soon. I woke up in deep surprise, unsure of what to think of my dream, except that I now knew what my path was.

Trust in Guru is only Sadhana!

One day, while returning from the mall, all of a sudden, I looked at my mom, and I could feel myself starting to cry, wondering why my mom was so peaceful and got to see Nannagaru so much, when I couldn’t.

Then, I worked on a charcoal art piece and when it was finished, sent it to Nannagaru through my mom’s friend. I waited for a while and when I got the video of Nannagaru seeing the art, I just cried a lot for some reason. When Nannagaru asked who did it, people were explaining who did it, but just by my name he seemed to recognize me, even after I hadn’t been to India for 5 years! The smile he gave then was simply beautiful.
Guru’s First Glance!

Next, during Winter Break at school, we came to India, and met Nannagaru for the first time that I can remember. It was only for two days but was simply amazing. I can only say I saw him for about 15-20 minutes because I had to also watch my brother outside. But in those few minutes, he smiled at me in an unforgettable way.

Surrender To Me, I’ll Take Care Of You!

For 6th grade, I was starting Middle school so I went for a camp to prepare us and teach us what middle school would be like. One of the camp days, we were reseting our school network passwords and I was unsure what to change mine to. Then, the idea of using Arunachala as my network password came to me and I was happy with the password and awed at how quickly I got saved from not having a reset password.

Selfless Work!
One Look, One Touch, One Word!

In the Fall of 2017, I had convinced my mom to let me miss a few days of school and see Nannagaru again. When I saw him, I gave him a charcoal drawing, and how much he appreciated it was both surprising, and inspiring. Then, during the morning section of the Birthday Celebrations, I got the opportunity to give him another charcoal drawing. This time, things came out in a completely unexpected way. Nannagaru, simply adored it, not to mention I was in complete awe, and with his will, for the first time, I had felt his gracious touch. I learned an important lesson that day, “any work that is done with selflessness, has its own rewards, if not pride.” That day probably raised into the best day in my life.

While at this trip, I also got some books blessed by Nannagaru, and out of all the books I’ve read, these are my favorite. Among these are The Gita for Children by Roopa Pai and Letters from Ramanashram by Suri Nagamma. These two books inspired me very much, but Nannagaru, the day he gave The Gita book to me, seemed to like it very much. Then, when I had read the book, the way it was styled in writing, and the lessons to learn from it were in direct relation to the type of reading I liked. It seemed Nannagaru had understood me to the point that he also knew how much I liked story based books.

Nanna Is Working!

In Art class at school, we were doing a paper mache “culture sculpture”, in which we each made our own sculpture that represents you in some way. I had many ideas like doing a paintbrush but suddenly I got one undefeatable idea. I thought I’d do a sculpture of Arunachalam! I wasn’t sure what made me do it, for I knew a realistic mountain would be very time taking. But I still did it. It was amazing how when I did something like this, time worked in my favor. In fact, I finished two days prior to the due date!

The Outer Guru Is Saying That The Real Guru Is Within!

Later, in December, my mom went and came back from India without me, and saw Nannagaru. Then, on December 29th, I was sleeping, and my mom was trying to wake me up. Knowing that my mom never wakes me up by shaking me, I looked at her very confused. Then she broke the news of Nannagaru’s samadhi to me. I couldn’t help but cry. For some reason that day, I could not be myself. Whenever I got a chance, I’d look at the few pictures I had of him, hoping for assurance that he was still here.

Then, on an unexpected day in January, I got my assurance. I had a piano recital that day, and was very nervous. I had practiced the song I was playing and mastered it to the best of my ability. When I was in line to go up for my performance, for a minute second, a force overcame my body, and I just heard Nannagaru’s voice, “I am still here.” I didn’t know what to make of it, except that now I knew 100% that he is there with me. When I went to perform, I did make many mistakes, but I felt they didn’t matter that much since the main event for me was my assurance of Nannagaru’s presence.

Have Faith In Yourself!

Once, my school friend texted me a inappropriate message which was seen by my parents. They, like any other parents guarded me and corrected me to be careful. I, within myself struggled a lot thinking, “Is this something I really want Bhagavan?” and I slept thinking over it.

The next day, I had another dream where Nannagaru’s voice was echoing saying that, “Your path is spirituality.”

Nannagaru has changed my life in many ways, and has always shown me the way to go. He had given me the initiative towards art and math, and has warned me of what to expect in my teenage years. He is my best friend and my inspiration. He is an embodiment of love, compassion, and kindness and I believe that he is still here with us today, and will always be there for a tomorrow.

Kanchi Paramacharya in my Dream - Sri Nannagaru

I have a special place for Kanchi Paramacharya within my Heart. He was the embodiment of simplicity. True beauty lies only in simple living. Once he came into my dream and placed two fruits in my hand. I was very happy but a little hesitant to accept the fruits. Then he said: "Are you aware what these fruits are? They are Beauty and Truth. That which is Beautiful is always Truth and that which is Truth is always beautiful. Both of them are one and the same. Dont differentiate between them. They are one and only one ie the experience of Advaita. If we attain such advaitic experience all our karmas will be burnt away."

When you perform any task without any desire, you will attain the desire less state

A poor girl got medical seat in 'B' category. As she wasn't in a position to pay her fees, Sri Nannagaru donated her entire fees. However in the second counseling, she got 'A' category seat. Therefore she came to Sri Nannagaru in order to return back the fees. However Sri Nannagaru refused to accept. Sri Nannagaru said: "You purchase good clothes and the expensive books using that money and lead the life of a normal student." Referring to that girl, Sri Nannagaru said: "She wanted to return back the money. But if accept it, it will be wrong on my behalf. When we perform any task without any desire, we will attain the desire less state. Then the Self within is revealed as 'I'. It is called as Karma Yoga. However if it has to be narrated in the words of Bhagavan, Bhagavan would ask us: Who has given you the money? The entire money belongs to God. If the sweet in the left hand is placed in the right hand, can anyone call it as donation? All the wealth belongs to God. He is the Supreme Master. The giver is God and the recipient is also God. Therefore if you say that 'I have donated', who is this 'I' you are referring to? You can't attain Self Knowledge without the annihilation of that'I'."

"Everything happens as per Gods will" - Day by Day with Sri Nannagaru

You must possess neither too much nor too less of money

A Collector's wife said to Sri Nannagaru: "My husband has a great honour in the society but he has not saved much money." Sri Nannagaru replied: "Don't you have sufficient savings? What will you do by earning more money? Your daughter's marriage is already completed. They are already employees of a bank. Even you will get pension on retiring from your job. Though you don't have surplus money, the money you possess is sufficient. If you have excess money, you will be constantly afraid of the Income tax raids. Also excess money will slowly pollute your mind. Possessing money is equivalent to wearing slippers. The slippers should be neither too small nor too big. If they are too small, you will get prickled by the thorns. If they are too big, you may slip down. Similarly you must possess neither too much nor too less of money."

Keep your 'I intact but make it as servant of God

A devotee said: "Nannagaru! These days I am being subject to fear. However, Bhagavan had asked us to get rid of 'i'(ego). I am habituated to chant the name of Ramana. But whenever I chant his name, I am reminded that Bhagavan has asked us to get rid of the 'i' ie ego. Once I am reminded of that, I am being subject to fear. I am afraid what will happen to me once I lose the 'i'?" Sri Nannagaru replied: "Don't lose anything. Keep your 'i' intact and make it as servant of God. Whatever has to happen will happen. As Hanuman always stayed at the feet of Lord Rama, even you place your 'i' at the feet of Lord Rama. Hanuman used to carry out the task assigned to him. Again He used to return back to the feet of Lord Rama. Similarly, even you carry out your task and put back your'i' at the feet of God." The devotee said: "Nannagaru! Your reply has been very satisfactory. I will act according to your instruction." Sri Nannagaru said: "Now, you will not be subject to fear anymore."

All your sorrow will be converted into Bliss when you experience that everything happens as per God's will

A devotee asked Sri Nannagaru: "Nannagaru! It is said that everything is happening as per God's will. It is alright as long as we read it or hear it. But when the situation demands, we are unable to digest it." Sri Nannagaru replied: "Even after performing spiritual practices for 100 births, you may or may not understand the above sentence. If you are able to bring it into experience, even a heap of sorrow will get converted into a heap of Bliss."

You resemble the fish caught in a net if you are happy due to external circumstances

Once, Sri Nannagaru asked a college principal: "How are you?" The principal replied: "I am alright. All my sons, daughters, daughters-in-law and grandchildren are alright. All of them are doing well. I am doing well only because they are doing well." Referring to this principal, Sri Nannagaru said: "All of you resemble the fish caught in a fisherman's net. The Master of the net has thrown the net into water. All of you are caught in that net. When the master of the net arrives and pulls out the net from water, unable to find water, you will become breathless and then die. Until the arrival of the death god, enjoy that blissful ignorance. There is nothing worthwhile of being proud in this entire Universe. What is man's life when compared to eternity?"

Being completely devoid of tendencies is much more difficult than attaining Self Knowledge

A devotee asked Sri Nannagaru: "Some people state that until all the tendencies are annihilated, Self Knowledge cannot be attained. However some people state that it is easy to attain Self Knowledge but it is very difficult to become completely devoid of tendencies. Is it true that tendencies exist even after attaining Self Knowledge?" Sri Nannagaru replied: "We can infer that sometimes tendencies do exist even after attaining Self Knowledge. For instance, in spite of attaining Self Knowledge, Sage Vishwamitra built the Trishanku heaven and got ruined. To take another instance, in order to test Vyasa Maharishi, Mother Annapoorna ensured that he didn't get food for 4 days. Then in a great rage Vyasa Maharishi became ready to curse the city of Kashi. Instantly Mother Annapoorna appeared before him and said: "You have become ready to curse the city of Kashi! I will not curse you but will order you to live in the outskirts of Kashi. Therefore Vyasa Maharishi lived in the Vyasa Kashi and continued with his writings. Thus it is possible that one may get ruined in spite of attaining Self Knowledge. Hence being completely devoid of tendencies is much more difficult than attaining Self Knowledge"

You need not give up chanting the name of Lord in the name of Self enquiry

Sri Nannagaru asked a devotee: "Which God's name are you chanting?" The devotee replied: "I am chanting neither Rama's name nor Krishna's name nor Shiva's name. I am doing the Self enquiry as prescribed by Bhagavan." Referring to her Sri Nannagaru said: "She got a good hold over Bhagavan's preaching. Hence self enquiry is enough for her. But we need not give up chanting the name of Lord taking her as an ideal."

Your doer-ship alone is the cause of your sorrow

A devotee came to Sri Nannagaru and said: "I have been doing medical practice along with my son-in-law. But recently we had a dispute. I had a slip of my tongue and said to him: 'It is all due to our hard work that today you and your wife are able to roam in a car.' My son-in-law became angry and replied: 'Now we will not use that car anymore.' He didn't stop there. He further said: "We will leave this place and set up our own medical practice.' Nannagaru! This is subjecting me to an intense grief and anxiety." Sri Nannagaru replied: "Why should you become so anxious? Let him set up his own medical practice. Till now he has been dependent. Now he will become independent." Then the devotee said: "Their departure is not making me sorrowful. But I am subject to sorrow when I remember that they are leaving only because of me". Sri Nannagaru said: "It is only called as doer-ship. Why do you consider yourselves responsible of their departure? It happened thus as God has ordained the same. Your doer-ship alone is the cause of your sorrow. Until the doer-ship is annihilated, sorrow becomes inevitable."

Adopt the harmonizing path

A devotee narrated the following to Sri Nannagaru: "Someone asked me: 'Which path is prescribed by your Guru? Is it the path of Karma or Bhakti or Dhyana or that of Jnana?' I could not give him an apt answer." Sri Nannagaru replied: "Tell them: 'My Guru prescribes the path that harmonizes all the above paths.' Not only now but if you are asked the same question anytime in future, tell them: 'My Guru's path is the Harmonizing path'."

Joy is different from Enjoy. That which emanates from God is Joy

Sri Nannagaru asked a devotee: 'How are you?' The devotee replied: 'I am alright. I am killing my time in some form or the other.' Sri Nannagaru felt :" In spite of being a very rich man, he has spoken thus. It may be due to an unknown sorrow and un-fulfillment. As long as one enjoys the worldly things, they are bound to become sorrowful. Joy is different from Enjoy. That which emanates from God is Joy. It will gradually lead them to the sorrow less state through constant remembrance of God and performance of spiritual practices."

To see wrong in others is one's own wrong

Sri Nannagaru said to one of the devotees: "Gandhiji and Kanchi Paramacharya have mentioned several things regarding 'What life has taught me.' Narrate to me any lessons that you have learnt from your life." The devotee said: "One should stop finding faults with others; rather one should find one's own faults." Sri Nannagaru replied: "Bhagavan has mentioned this more wonderfully. He said: 'To see wrong in others is one's own wrong.' Whatever flaw you see in others exists even within you. If you are not able to see any flaw in others, it implies that you are completely flawless. If you are flawless, you can't see any flaw in others though they may possess a particular flaw." Then the devotee again said: "I have realized that the wealth of Divine Qualities is the true wealth." Sri Nannagaru said: "Divine Qualities refer to those qualities which lead us towards the Divine. If you possess at least one good quality amongst those Divine Qualities, you will be decorated with the other Divine Qualities automatically."

"Don't differentiate between material life and spiritual life" (By Dr.Mithin)

A father brought his son to Sri Nannagaru. He complained that his son didnot want to marry and wanted to give up his abroad job so that he can spend his full time in meditation.

On hearing this, Sri Nannagaru said:

"Donot differentiate between the material life and the spiritual life. Even the materialistic work must be considered as spiritual work. In the Vishnu sahasranama (the 1000 names of Lord Vishnu), there is there is a name called Vishwam meaning the Universe ie the Lord implied that: 'the one who exists in the very form of Universe is Me only'. In the Gita, the Lord said:' One can attain Self Knowledge only through the effort of several births.' Buddha said: " I have attained the state of Nirvana today only due to the endless good deeds done in my previous births." Therefore Jnana (Knowledge) and Karma(Work) represent the two wings of a bird. A bird needs both the wings to fly. Similarly we must utilize both the aspects of Jnana and Karma and attain liberation.
Most of the people who want to give up their jobs for the sake of spiritual evolution turn out to be escapists. They gain neither materially nor spiritually. Therefore you must not give up your work for atleast 20 more years."

Then Sri Nannagaru asked the boy: " Is your path based on dvaita or advaita? Do you want another birth? I dont think you will get Jivanmukti. Perhaps you can try for kramamukti." Thus Sri Nannagaru examined him in several aspects and tested his perseverance in achieving his goal. Though the boy initially became nervous, he later on answered confidently. Then Sri Nannagaru Graciously gave him the following spiritual advices:

1) Donot give up your job for the next 20 years. That country is a very peaceful and rich nation. Therefore stay in that country only and save your money. Do some charity but not to the ineligible people. When I advised an American resident to purchase lands, he replied: " Since whatever we possess is all white money, we have to guard the lands that we purhcase in America. Therefore I bought lands in India only." Therefore plan your savings accordingly.

2) It is better to marry than to burn. However as you have made God as your goal, you can give up marriage if you are not willing.

3)Always read the books of those people who have the energy to bestow their Grace. I will give you the book 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna'. In that book, the answers of Sri Ramakrishna have been marked in red. Read that book atleast for half an hour or an hour before you sleep. If you read the book 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna', you will get the required foundation for leading a spiritual life. Your craving to enjoy the world will automatically get reduced. You can also read the books of Bhagavan Ramana like 'Who am I?' or 'Talks with Ramana Maharishi' or 'Be as you are'.

4) Buddha said: " Dont consider that some other person has committed a mistake and that you will not do the same. If you are careless, even you can do the same mistake."

5) Sri Ramakrishna said: " You are now saying 'i', 'i'. Realizing that you are not that which you are referring to (ie body and mind) is only Self Knowledge."

6) There are two main causes for rebirth: filthy tendencies and filthy deeds. If you are able to eliminate them even before the death of your body, you will not get another body. You need to have an opposition party to eliminate them. Holy Company is very useful for this purpose.

Japa and meditation are for the purpose of concentration and introversion of mind. In the Gita, the Lord said: " Rather than giving up the work in entirety, the one who works and offers the fruit of his action to the society will reach Me soon. It is better to sacrifice the fruits of your actions than sacrificing your actions."

8) First do Japa very well. It is Japa which leads you towards Dhyana(Meditation). Meditation is not something to be done. It has to happen automatically for which you will require a background. Not that you should not meditate. You can meditate in fixed timings either in the morning or in the evening.

9) You must harmonize all the four yogas ie Karma, Bhakti, Dhyana and Jnana and attain spiritual evolution. Going forward by Harmonizing all the four paths is the safest path.
You will not be aware of your weaknesses until and unless you donot start working.

10) Don't hate others inspite of being hated by them.Forgetting is very difficult. Everything will be ended if you can forget. Forgetting is much more difficult than Japa and Meditation.

11) If you identify yourselves with the Truth, you will view both the men and women as Truth only. You must attain such a standard and level of Consciousness. Spirituality implies fighting with yourself.

12) Beware of your friendships. One boy told me that he got reformed due to the company of an intelligent friend.(Sri Nannagaru said that the boy will get Noble prize in future).

13) Visit Arunachala. You can recharge your battery.Keep watching our website. It contains our teaching.

14) Donot give up your work. Work will elevate and purify you. It is only while working you will come to know of your positive and negative attributes. They are not known in meditation. Only after knowing them, you make an effort to eliminate them. Only when you become aware of the disease, you make an effort to get it cured.

15) Donot neglect your materialistic work. Whatever small thing you may do for the benefit of this world, God will certainly become happy with it.

16) This world is like a training ground for us. It resembles a mirror. It points out the faults within us but doesnot eradicate them. We have to get rid of them on our own.

17) Milton said in 'The Paradise Lost': "Desire and anger are better when compared to craving for fame. Desire and anger subside as and when our age advances. But it is not the same with regard to craving for fame. Therefore donot crave for fame.

18) This is the dark age. You may come across different types of people. Some people may deceive you.Though some people are aware of the subject, they may not lead their life according to it and thereby become sorrowful. Therefore currently we cannot trust anyone.Donot get deceived and thereby become a fool in the name of spiritual life.

19) God looks at the intention behind your deed and not at your deed. Even if you are compelled to do some thing against your conscience as part of your official duty, you need not regret as God is more concerned about your heart behind the deed and not the deed itself.

20) Keep working slowly and steadily without forgetting the destination. At some point of time, you will get divine interference. Your Heart will get deepened. You must not have expectation. It will come automatically. If whatever can be done from our end represents 5 paise, whatever has to come from God's end in the form of Grace represents the remnant 95 paise. As you possess mind, you cannot stop making an effort. Do something or the other ie either japa or meditation or work or self enquiry or discrimination.

21)One attraction is sufficient to ruin us. One single attraction can lead us into several births. Though you dont want to get another body, you will get it as long as there are tendencies within you. How long can you stop yourselves when you feel like vomiting? Therefore God's Grace is required to get rid of the tendencies.

Thus Sri Nannagaru educated the boy in all the possible ways. That boy prostrated to Sri Nannagaru. Being completely drenched in the Grace of Sri Nannagaru, he happily left with a great gratitude within His Heart.]

"Guru's Grace exists forever" - Day by Day with Sri Nannagaru

Make effort and reduce your anger

A devotee asked Sri Nannagaru very sincerely: "These days my anger has increased a lot. I am getting angry over my family members even for petty things. Though I want to control my anger, I am unable to do so." Sri Nannagaru replied: "You are getting angry only due to your haughtiness. If you don't reduce it by making effort, God will create circumstances and press you in the nook of the door by which you will vomit out your weakness. Make effort and reduce your anger. Guru's Grace exists forever."

"Introvert your mind" - Day by Day with Sri Nannagaru

If you accept the insult patiently, your depths of tolerance will increase. It will in turn introvert your mind

A devotee asked Nannagaru: "You have said: "Bear injury and bear insult; even that is a part of sadhana (spiritual practice). But practically, it (bearing insult) is not as easy as it is said." Sri Nannagaru replied: "The scriptures declare:'Bear insult; even that is a part of sadhana'. It is because Guru's Grace showers more upon them who patiently forbear the insult when compared to those who react back instantly. If you accept the insult patiently, your depths of tolerance will increase. It will in turn introvert your mind. This disgrace did not fall upon you without the knowledge of God. If you think that God has blessed you with this disgrace only to teach you some lesson or to rectify some flaw within your thinking faculty, you will be able to endure the insult patiently. You must realize that you could have insulted someone in the same manner in one of your previous births. Hence you are reaping the fruit according to the seed that you have sown. Only then you will be able to forbear the insult. If you insult anyone, do remember that you will be cleansing them from their impurity, dirt and sin. That dirt, impurity and sin will settle down in your mind and an equivalent amount of your merit will be transferred to them."

Grace is unseen and unheard. It is automatic Divine action

A devotee said to Sri Nannagaru: "Previously, I first questioned you and then carried back your Grace in the form of your answers. Now I will not ask you any further. I will accept whatever you will grant me graciously." Then Sri Nannagaru replied: "Grace is unseen and unheard. It is automatic Divine action."

Work Yoga

Working skillfully, tolerantly and tactfully is called as Yoga

A doctor in Hyderabad conducted cataract operation to Sri Nannagaru's eyes. He told Sri Nannagaru: "I am doing this operation only for my satisfaction and not for the sake of the money. Do you remember my message to permit me to conduct the operation?" The doctor was trained in the famous Aurobindo hospital of Madhurai. He asked Sri Nannagaru to sleep on the bed. After 3 minutes he asked Sri Nannagaru to get up. The patient is normally given anesthesia before the commencement of the operation. So Sri Nannagaru was under the impression that he was given anesthesia. Sri Nannagaru then asked the doctor: "What is this? Did you finish giving me anesthesia?" The doctor replied: "The anesthesia has been given as well as the operation has been done. Now you can get up from bed." Referring to this, Sri Nannagaru said: "This is called as Yoga. Working skillfully, tolerantly and tactfully is called as Yoga. Working without any expectation of result is called as Yoga. Working without doer-ship is also called as Yoga."

Lord Subrahmanya and myself - Sri Nannagaru

Gods are related to each other. Similarly human beings are related to each other. But there is a relationship between Lord Subrahmanya and myself. He is a divine personality and I am a human being. Normally the gods and human beings are not related to each other. But when I remember Subrahmanya, I feel him to be my relative. If I come across his photo anywhere, I don’t feel like saluting him. Not because I don’t like Him. I feel why should family members honor each other. I feel as if I am also His family member. Subrahmanya Swami and I have been related to each other since several births. I don’t worship him or salute him but the relationship with him pertaining to heart cannot be denied. He is very close to my Heart.

About Guru - Sri Nannagaru

Guru's Silence is much greater than all the scriptures. No book can describe the Grace of Guru. No mouth can describe the same.It is beyond the words. We may hear a lot and also perform several spiritual practices. We donot even have the power to recognize the intensity or progress of our spiritual practices. We may think that we are not at all evolving. But we are not aware how far we have progressed. Guru takes care of the same. We may not even be able to recognize the process happening within. All these are taken care by the Guru. But how long does Guru take care? As long as the disease persists, the patient is retained in a hospital. Same is the case even with the Guru. As long as we get merged with the Guru (as the river merges with the ocean), He takes care of us. Guru implies Self only. There is no existence for Guru or God or Jiva or world apart from the Self. It seems as if silver exists in a pearl shell. But does the silver really exist in the pearl shell? No. As silver doesn't exist in a pearl shell even peace doesnot exist in this world. Guru is the most Compassionate one. Only out of Grace He says that the existence of peace in this world is as much true as the existence of silver in a pearl shell.Though nothing exists externally, we feel as if something exists. It is only our ego which makes us think so. Therefore inspite of writing any number of books or giving any number of sermons, who can describe the glory of Guru's Silence, Power and Peace? It is beyond the written and spoken expression.

One who increases our bondage is not our Guru but our burden. He is only a true Guru who releases us from bondage. He is our Guru who leads us from darkness into light, from ignorance into Knowledge and from mortality to Immortality. He is our Guru who enables us to transcend our desire and death.

"Brahma Jnani beyond body" - Sri Nannagaru's experiences

Once I sat in front of the photo of Ramana Maharishi. I never worshiped Him through puja. Looking at the photo of Bhagavan, I said: “Since that body (Bhagavan’s body) is no more, I am aware that you are not alive or no more existent. Then Bhagavan replied: “Though you may think that I don't exist anymore, it is very much true that you are being chased by me. What is the relationship between existence and body? A Brahma Jnani is not his body even when he is alive. A Jnani never differentiates between the existence or non existence of his body. The Guru tries to take you all to that state. A Brahma Jnani can view even without eyes, can hear even without ears, can work even without hands, can walk even without legs. ”

"Leave it to Destiny" - Day by Day with Sri Nannagaru

When a human being doesn't have forgetfulness, how can God have the same?

Once, Sri Nannagaru asked a devotee: "Did you forget the task that I wanted you to understake? The devotee replied: "No, Nannagaru. I didn't forget it. I am waiting for the appropriate time." Referring to this, Sri Nannagaru said: "When a human being doesn't have forgetfulness, how can God have the same? God is waiting for the appropriate time to mature you and thereby bestow you with liberation."

Not only Self enquiry but Surrender also leads to Self Realization

Once, a devotee asked Sri Nannagaru: "Bhagavan has suggested the path of Self enquiry in order to control the mind. But in spite of doing Self enquiry, my thoughts are not subsiding. They are increasing manifold." Sri Nannagaru replied: "You are trying to cling to a single sentence of Bhagavan and declaring that you are unable to control your mind. Even Self enquiry facilitates in the destruction of the mind. However Lord Krishna narrated several means of destroying the mind in the Gita. Even if one possesses complete faith in the Lord or chants his name or performs japa or meditation, or surrenders himself to the feet of Lord, the mind gets annihilated. Adopt the method that suits you the best and try to annihilate your mind."

One should not desire anything but permit the body's destiny to take its course

Once, an old lady said to Nannagaru: "I have a problem with my husband. He doesn't take his food until I give it with my own hands. Even if daughter-in-law are ready to do, he wants me alone to accomplish all his tasks. Now both of us have become old. If I die before him, he will have to strive a lot. Therefore it is better that he dies prior to me." After she left, Sri Nannagaru said: "Everything happens according to one's body's destiny. If not now, her desire will be fulfilled in some other birth. She will become a widow at a young age. Therefore one should not desire anything but permit the body's destiny to take its course."

Beauty exists within - Sri Nannagaru's experiences

All the beauty lies within the Heart. Beauty doesn't exist in external things. Once I had the vision of Anjaneya swami in a dream when I was in Shirdi. I neither had the vision of Anjaneya swami in a dream nor did I ever adore him before. Leave out the god or devil. Unable to view the beauty, I closed both my eyes. When I say beauty, I am talking about the external beauty, I am not referring to Inner Beauty. Hence the name Sundara Kanda has been named thus, Anjaneya Swamy is most beautiful. Therefore the name itself became Sundara Kanda. When he came in my dream in Shirdi, I felt, will anyone with body possess such beauty and tried to view with both the eyes. Ultimately unable to view that beauty, I closed both my eyes. Whenever Shakesphere had to refer any beautiful people, he described them thus: 'The Beauty walks on the Earth.' It implies the Beauty itself took a form and started walking on this earth. I felt even Shakesphere cant describe the beauty of Anjaneya swami. I felt I can never visualize the inner beauty of Anjaneya Swami as I am closing my eyes on viewing the external beauty itself. I felt, how wonderful should be the Inner Beauty! The true beauty exists within.

In 1987, I was very sick and thought that my death is very near. Even the doctors of Palakollu sent me message thru their assistant's asking me to eat all that I relished(thinking my days are over). I felt very happy when I heard that I would die very soon for I need not travel or do any service to the body. But feeling happy is also not the correct state. Even that is a weakness. We should neither feel happy nor feel depressed when the death approaches us.We will not be abiding by God's will if we get either pleasure or pain on hearing about our death.

Ramana Bhaskara - Day by Day with Sri Nannagaru

None in this Universe has attained Self Knowledge till date without possessing dispassion

A person said very happily: "Nannagaru! I don't have any dispassion but all my desires are getting fulfilled effortlessly. Now I am very happy. I will get liberation also effortlessly." Sri Nannagaru did not get into any argument with that person but merely said: "You are much better than us". However after that person left, Sri Nannagaru said: "None in this Universe has attained Self Knowledge till date without possesing dispassion."

If you willingly perform the task allotted by God, you will get the result of doing Japa and Dhyana (meditation)

Once a lady approached Sri Nannagaru and said: "I don't know the reason but I was unable to honor my husband from the very first day of my marriage. He is a good person, I have been giving him food and coffee mechanically. But recently I happened to read the magazine 'Ramana Bhaskara'. It contained: 'Even though you may not like the task allotted to you by God, if you perform it willingly (putting aside your likes and dislikes) as it is allotted by God, you will get the result of performing japa and dhyana through that work.' Ever since I read this sentence, I started giving food and coffee to my husband willingly. By doing thus, I am feeling much happier than before. Even my husband seems to be happy."

Sri Nannagaru said:" I was thinking to stop the publishing of Ramana Bhaskara. But after listening to you, I now realize the utility of publishing it. Now I will drop that idea."

Sri Nannagaru's experience on Bodiless power

When I had a temperature of 104 degrees Celsius, I experienced a bodiless power. The doctors suspected the disease to be cancer. My mind was prepared to leave the body. I had no other thoughts.I dint even get the thought that if the fever comes down, I would visit Arunachala and do Girivalam or Giripradakshina.

One day a bodiless power came and asked me if I ever listened the name of Udipi. I said Udipi is in the state of Karnataka. Then it asked me in return whether I am aware of the GOD there? Then I replied as Balakrishna. The body was invisible and making me give the answers for its questions. Then it asked whether I knew who established Udipi Krishna? I replied as Madhvacharya. Then it told me to make the darshan of Udipi Krishna for my fever to vanish and the voice disappeared. But I dint get the thought of going to Udipi and make the darshan of Krishna.

I told the doctor about my conversation with the bodiless power. The doctor said that they were clueless about the cause of the disease and hence asked me to take a vow of visiting Udipi. But how much ever I tried to take the vow, I was unsuccessful, not that I dint want to visit Udipi or disliked Udipi Krishna. I dint even get the thought of doing Girivalam or Giripradakshina if the fever comes down.

I felt all this to be a dream. What even if I die? This body is made up of five elements. Until the Prarabdha karma is burnt out the life energy (Prana) clings to the body. Once the Prarabdha is finished, the body expires.

Sri Nannagaru - Sivaikyam

Sadguru Sri Nannagaru dropped his mortal frame on December 29th 2017 12:00 AM at his residence, on the day of Vaikunta ekadasi.

The greatest gift & blessing for this life time is our dearest universal father who will rest only physically but will ever work till each one of us attain oneness!
