Set apart your likes and dislikes

While reading a book like Bhagavad Gita, set apart your likes and dislikes. Don't think that you will read only the verses that you like and not the verses you dislike. Whether you like it or not, read the scriptures as it is and try to get them digested. But if you develop likes and dislikes even before reading them, you can never digest them. Rather you will become good for nothing. You lack reverence for the scriptures (shastras). But it is the scriptures (shastras) that reform us. That which rules and regulates us is referred to as shastra.
